I have crust over to the pie side.
So yesterday was March 14th, or 3.14, which is the number for the math ratio of pi, which is why it has become known as Pi (or Pie) Day. I first heard about this on Facebook around 3 years ago, and ever since, I've tried to celebrate it by getting a pie from a bakery on John St here in Hamilton, on the way between home and work.
Growing up, I never really liked pies much in general. I'm not really sure what it was, maybe the crust, I don't know. I like apples but apple pie makes me sick. I think it's the cinnamon. Anyway, I've grown to like a few types - chocolate cream pie and coconut cream pie - and this place, Pane Del Sol, does an amazing job on both. I picked up a chocolate cream pie yesterday, and brought it in for the office. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ... chocolatey flakey goodness. Highly recommended.
Besides dessert, other pies that make my stomach happy are Scotch pies, steak and kidney pies, and Sheppard's Pie. I ordered one for my supper break at work from Cat 'N' Fiddle. I like that the gravy comes in a separate container that you can add as much as you want. I'm not sure if that's different for eat-in compared to take-out. Great carrots and peas for the vegetables, and so much meat, more than in other Sheppard's Pies that I've ordered at other places.
Pane Del Sol is at 175 John St. N., Hamilton, and Cat 'N' Fiddle is at 174 John St S.
